New Stretch Mark and Skin Rejuvenation Treatment Introduced to Houston by Dr. Zaniewski-Singh

Carboxytherapy, a cosmetic skin rejuvenation method and stretch mark treatment that makes use of carbon dioxide, has arrived in Houston. Dr. Michelle Zaniewski-Singh M.D., F.A.C.P., F.A.C.E., C.M.E.S., F.A.S.L.M.S. is the first physician to introduce the technique to Houston residents.

>Carboxytherapy is a nonsurgical treatment for body and skin rejuvenation which is very popular in Europe and South America. This technique has a number of applications but Dr. Zaniewski-Singh feels that it is the most effective way to treat stretch marks with no downtime.

The supporting framework of the skin is composed of two proteins, collagen and elastin. Stretch marks are scars in the intermediate layer of the skin, the dermis, caused by disruption of the collagen and elastin framework. This can occur with pregnancy, with puberty, at the time of rapid weight gain and under the influence of the hormone cortisol even without weight gain. In the stretch mark the superficial skin layer overlying the dermal scar, the epidermis, is thinned.

Treatments such as microdermabrasion and retinols target the epidermis but not the dermis. Vascular lasers help red or pink discoloration but do not correct the dermal damage. Until now it has been very difficult to treat stretch marks effectively.

Carboxytherapy minimizes stretch marks by targeting the dermis. This technique increases the blood flow to these poorly vascularized areas. Collagen production is enhanced. With successive treatments they contract and constrict becoming narrower, shorter and less visible.

Doctor Zaniewski-Singh states that her patients are excited by the skin rejuvenation they see with Carboxytherapy for stretch marks, scars, and dark circles under their eyes.

Doctor Zaniewski-Singh has been selected as one of Houston’s TopDocs in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 by HTexas magazine. She was selected for Profiles in Healthcare Distinction by Houston Modern Luxury Magazine in 2007.
